Notes: Two things are said about negative campaign ads: 1) People say they don't like them; 2) They work. We wouldn't have attack ads if people didn't respond to them somewhat like we wouldn't have pushers if people didn't drugs. In other words, we are complicit in their existance. I suspect that most people who say they don't like negative ads are simply saying what they think should be said -- what sounds good. I'm one of those who says he doesn't like negative campaign ads, yet I find most of the other ads immensely boring.

I wondered today watching some television analysts talk even more about the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth ads if the interest in them hadn't peaked a few days ago. I also wondered if anyone under forty-five ever cared about them since Vietnam was not an issue for them.
