Notes: Taliban supporters protested in Pakistan on Friday after prayers. The protests were smaller and less violent than some expected. With the government of Pakistan allying with the United States against the Taliban, its former friend, being able to control Friday's protests was thought to be an early test of the continuity of the government. It succeeded and claims that the radical, fundamentalist Muslims supporting the Taliban are only a small minority of the population.
Watching footage of the protests, I was once again struck by how diverse America is, and how little diversity there was among the protestors. The Taliban and its supporters do seem to represent the Middle Ages. Bioterrorism was in the forefront of the news this past week. Last week's Thadeus & Weez strip addresses bioterrorism and can be seen by going to the 2001 Thadeus & Weez Archive. 10.14.01
